We take a look at the key movers and shakers in the North this quarter:

David Hulbert moves from Oldham based firm Pearson Hinchliffe to join the in-house team at Financial and Legal. David takes over from Anthony Brennan who is leaving to join the employment team of Jo Lewis at CFS.

Pilkington Group plc has strengthened its in-house legal team after being joined by Nikki Ellison. Nikki leaves M & S Money and will be working alongside Julie Halligan and Christopher Bayley for the leading glass manufacturer which encompasses the brand names ‘Pilkingtons', ‘Quiligotti' and ‘Dorset Woolliscroft'.

David Dresser moves to the Yorkshire based Costcutter Supermarkets Group Limited. The supermarket chain which boasts over 1,500 stores nationwide and which announced sales amounting to £533m for the year ending 26 April 2008 hired David from Accent Social Housing.

Regional drinks manufacturer Halewood International plc have offered Elizabeth Murray the role of heading up their legal department. The Liverpool based company has a varied portfolio of drink brands including ‘Lambrini'. Elizabeth leaves DLA where she was an associate in the Technology Media and Telecommunications Team and will replace Peter Horsfall who has joined the international law firm.

Search marketing consultancy, Latitude Group, have recently announced the hire of Melanie Hatton from Addleshaws as their first in-house legal appointment. Melanie, spent five years at MyTravel PLC before joining the respected national law firm.

Sam Plant, former in-house adviser to API has left the manufacturer of specialised packaging materials to join PZ Cussons. Based in Stockport, Sam will advise on the company's impressive brand portfolio with household names including Pearl, Carex and Imperial Leather. Sam is replaced by Jane Hyndman.

Alison Charnock joins ASDA from Thomas Cook plc where she will take up a senior legal position in Ellie Doohan's Yorkshire based legal team.

HBOS say farewell to Ann O'Brien. After a rich career spanning four decades, Ann takes her well earned retirement. Marcus Ezekiel is to step into her role from his position as head of the bank's retail division.

Trudy Bower joins International Personal Finance from Premier Farnell.  She will join Ros Marshall Smith, reporting in to the board of the ten-year-old company which has enjoyed substantial growth since its demerger with Provident Financial PLC in 1997.

Provident Financial plc has secured the hire of Brian Smith from Citi Financial Europe plc. The Bradford based FTSE 250 financial services company specialises in providing short term home loans and was named Home Credit Provider of the Year at the prestigious Credit Today Awards, held in London in May this year.  

Matthew Hargreaves moves from Brabners Chaffe StreetAdidas in Cheshire. Matthew will advise on a range of legal matters, reporting to Pinder Sandhu who is the UK Head of Legal at the sports giant who also owns Reebok.

Lloyd Lemmon moves to Hargreaves Services plc from Pinsent Masons. Established in 1994, Hargreaves is one of the fastest mineral and support services groups in the UK and has recently bolstered its position with the acquisition of AJS Contracts Limited, a provider of niche general engineering maintenance services to the power generation industries.

Teifion Hill leaves Places for People Limited in order to take up a position with Qual Comm, one of the world's leading wireless telecommunication providers. Teifion is to be replaced by Chris Martin who recently joined the property management and development company from Cancer Research UK.

Ian Todhunter departs Vertex to join The Department of Work and Pensions ("DWP"). The seasoned commercial lawyer who spent six years with the business processes outsourcing company, a subsidiary of United Utilities plc will join the legal team at DWP later this year.

Braemar plc have snapped up Tracey Hardman from Keoghs. Tracey leaves the Bolton based practice where she practiced as a Partner to join the securities and estates company where she will be in-house counsel.
